CAIRO METRO TICKET PRICES HAVE OFFICIALLY BEEN INCREASED TO 2 EGP 

 

Four months after floating the pound, and the one pound coin will no longer suffice to buy us a metro ticket. Commuters will now be required to pay 2 EGP, which is double the previous amount, in order to get to their daily destinations using the metro.

Dr.Hesham Arafat the" Minister of Transportation" stated that the price of the full ticket will be 2 EGP, while the price of the half-ticket will be 1.50 EGP and Only 1 EGP for people with special needs.
 He also stated that the Underground Metro provides a very good service regarding time and safety,  also by trasporting Up to 3 Millions commuter per day, knowing that 40% of those commuters have reduced subscriptions to the Metro. He also stated that since the year of 2010, The earnings of the Underground Metro have been reduced, as  since 2006 no one changes the price of the ticket regradless the high cost of repairing such a huge public facility.

As the earnings of the Underground Metro are up to 716 Million pounds including: tickets, advertising and renting shops, while the annual cost of repairing is 916 Million pounds, so by this calculation the Underground Metro losts 200 Million pound per year.
