A New Railway Station in Egypt
The new railway station will be
located in Bashteel, and the main goal behind this project is to relieve pressure
off Ramsees Cairo railway station. Ramses Train Station, or “Bab Al-Hadid” (The
Iron Gate) as it used to be known, was the first of Egypt’s many railway
stations. Alone, it is responsible for about 20% of the total daily traffic as
about 300,000 passengers come and depart through its 130 trains, forming a
total of 856 trips per day. Such astronomical numbers have taken a toll on the
station, and recent years saw the calls for a new railway station to help in
managing the endless flow of commuters
Moreover, President Abdelfatah
El-sisi was the one who gave a direct decree for this project. After the
explosion that happened in Ramsees railway station, a lot of upgrades in the Egyptian
transportation system had to be done, the government started by the new
electric public transportation in Alexandria, now they are doing a new railway
that will include a shopping mall for travelers. For the Bashteel railway
station to be done it will take almost two years for the railway complex
workshop to be done and three years for the commercial phase to be done.
